Taita Taveta All Stars FC this week got an opportunity to train and sharpen their skills under the experienced Mathare United senior coach Francis Kimanzi at Uwanja wa Goan, Nairobi.
Speaking after the intensive training exercise in Thursday, Coach Kimanzi commended the county’s Department of Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services led by CeC Bigvai Mwailemi for promoting and uplifting talents from the grassroots.
“I am happy that you decided to recruit the players from ‘mashinani’ thereby giving youth at the grassroots an opportunity to showcase their talents. After interacting with this team I can state without fear of contradiction that this team has potential for greatness. All they need is the necessary support,” said Kimanzi who once coached Harambee Stars.
The 30 footballers selected from all the four Sub Counties after vigorous open soccer trials, vowed to be an inspiration to the youth in the region.
The team has played with established teams such as Ushuru FC, Kariobangi Sharks FC and Soy FC.
During the launch of the All Stars team as the team patron Governor Granton Samboja promised to facilitate the players to participate in a series of matches with established teams across the country with an aim of sharpening, acquiring and learning new skills.
